Before modern conveniences, people relied on the natural world for food, medicine, shelter, and survival. Join a knowledgeable ranger for an engaging exploration of the plants, fungi, and other natural resources used by the Comanche, Apache, and other Native peoples to thrive in the wild.

Fishing with a Ranger

Come join Ranger George for an introduction to the basics of fishing and discover what you might hook! Participants can borrow fishing poles and tackle from the park, making this program perfect for beginners, no prior experience or equipment is necessary. This program is free with park entrance . The program is weather dependent.

Lake Brownwood State Park - Texas Parks and Wildlife
🔭 Stargazing Night at Lake Brownwood State Park Experience the wonder of the night sky during a special evening of stargazing at Lake Brownwood State Park. Guests will have the opportunity to view celestial objects through telescopes while learning about stars, constellations, and other fascinating sights overhead from knowledgeable volunteers. Whether attending for the first time or returning as a seasoned skywatcher, this program offers an unforgettable look at the universe above. ✨ Starry Skies & Shared Discovery The program takes place in the park’s Day Use Area, where visitors are encouraged to bring a folding chair or blanket to relax under the stars. To help preserve everyone’s night vision, guests should bring a red light instead of a white flashlight and be mindful of vehicle headlights when arriving and departing. Astronomy enthusiasts are also welcome to bring their own telescopes and share their passion for the night sky with fellow participants. 🌌 Admission & Information This program is included with park admission and is weather dependent. Guests who would like to volunteer as astronomy educators can contact the park staff for more information. Visitors are encouraged to call the park during operating hours before attending to check the status of the program if weather conditions are uncertain.

Join Ranger George as he invites park visitors to explore the newest addition to Lake Brownwood State Park while discovering its fascinating flora and fauna! 🌿🦋 Participants will learn to use iNaturalist and Seek to help catalog species and support ongoing conservation, no expert knowledge required, just curiosity! 🔎🌎 Reservation required: Call (325) 784-5223 to reserve a spot; meet at Park Headquarters, and please note that pets are not permitted due to sensitive natural and cultural resources.

🏮 Light Up Lake Brownwood: Water Lantern Festival Light Up Lake Brownwood brings the community together on October 10th from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM for an inspiring evening centered around a beautiful water lantern festival. With the message “Every Light Tells a Story. Every Light Makes a Difference,” attendees are invited to honor, remember, celebrate, and give hope as they light up the lake together. ✨ Hope, Community & Celebration The event features live music, delicious food, local vendors, and more, creating a meaningful evening for friends, families, and the community to enjoy. Proceeds from Light Up Lake Brownwood benefit Brown County United Way and youth programs at the Texas 4-H Center, helping make a difference throughout the community. The event is made possible with support from sponsors including Ethos Pet Brands, Solaris Energy, Oncor, Texas Bank, KTAB, Ben E. Keith, City and Rural Rides, and Heart of Texas Mechanical. 🎟️ Tickets & Info Advance ticket sales are required. Individual tickets are $25, Date Night packages are $60, and group tickets are available for as low as $20. Together, the community can light up the lake with hope and make every light count.

Trunk or Treat

Lake Brownwood State Park Halloween Trunk or Treat Families are invited to a fun and safe Halloween Trunk or Treat on Saturday, October 24 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Lake Brownwood State Park. Kids can dress up in their Halloween costumes and enjoy trick-or-treating as campers decorate their campsites and hand out candy in a family-friendly outdoor setting. The event also features Creepy Crawlies with Ranger George for some spooky educational fun. ✨ Family-Friendly Fun & Safe Outdoor Adventure This festive event creates a welcoming, community atmosphere where children can trick-or-treat safely among beautifully decorated campsites at Willow Point Campground. Campers are welcome to participate by decorating their sites and passing out candy, free campsites are available for those who sign up to help host the event. It’s a perfect opportunity for families to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Lake Brownwood State Park while celebrating Halloween together. ️ Admission & Registration Entry fee is waived for this special event in lieu of a donation item (specific items needed will be announced later). Free campsites for campers who wish to decorate and pass out candy are available on a first-come, first-served basis. To reserve a hosting campsite, call the park office at (325) 784-5223 or email lakebrownwoodsp@tpwd.texas.gov. What to bring: Halloween costume and candy bucket. 🎄 Lake Brownwood Holiday at the Lake Visitors can celebrate the holiday season at Lake Brownwood State Park with a festive drive-through holiday lights display on December 11 and 12. Campers will decorate their campsites along the Willow Point camping loop, creating a cheerful holiday experience for guests to enjoy from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. On Saturday night, visitors can also stop by the Group Dining Hall for pictures with Santa, hot chocolate, and a chance to paint a holiday ornament to take home. ✨ Festive Lights & Giving Spirit The holiday celebration is free to attend, with guests encouraged to bring donations benefiting the Brown County Humane Society and its four-legged friends. The event offers a fun way for families to enjoy the holiday season while giving back to animals in the community. 🎟️ Free Admission & Donation Information Admission is free. Suggested donations include kitten, puppy, cat, and dog food, cat litter, heavy-duty 55 to 60 gallon trash bags, puppy pads, laundry soap, Dawn dish soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and cat and dog toys. Campers interested in decorating a campsite and passing out candy can sign up for a free campsite by calling 325-784-5223 or emailing lakebrownwoodsp@tpwd.texas.gov .
